Para celebrar mi cumpleaños, nos fuimos a pasar dos noches a un hotel en la frontera entre Suiza e Italia, el Swiss Diamond, ubicado a cerca de 15 minutos en carro de Lugano, en el cantón de Ticino. Ticino es el cantón conocido como la Suiza italiana (la svizzera italiana), es decir, la parte de suiza donde el idioma oficial es el italiano. Personalmente, creo que es una de las regiones más hermosas de toda Suiza, ya verán en las fotos.

El Swiss Diamond Hotel es un hotel 5 estrellas, ubicado el puro frente del lago de Lugano (Lago di Lugano). La frontera entre Suiza e Italia está en medio del lago, es decir, al otro lado del lago ya es Italia. Puesto que estos meses son temporada muy baja para los hoteles en esta zona, se consiguen ofertas excelentes! El Swiss Diamond es un Wellness Spa, con salas de masajes, jacuzzis, sauna, baño de vapor y un tradicional baño turco.

El día de mi cumpleaños, nos fuimos para Lugano. El clima estuvo espectacular, lo cual es raro en invierno, el cielo casi totalmente despejado y mucho sol. Si no fuera por la temperatura (8C), hubiera sido todo un día de verano. Lugano es la tercera plaza financiera más importante de Suiza, después de Zúrich y Ginebra. El sector bancario está constituido especialmente por bancos privados (lo que se conoce como private banking), que son los bancos que adminstran el dinero de los millonarios. Por ejemplo, para abrir una cuenta en un banco privado, se necesita un depósito mínimo de 2 millones de francos suizos (cerca de USD 2 millones), el límite varian de banco en banco. Por ende, no es nada raro encontrarse en las calles de Lugano Mercedes de la más alta línea, Range Rovers, Maseratti's y Bentley's.

Fue una excelente forma de pasar mi cumpleaños, y espero regresar a este hotel el próximo año si tienen la misma oferta, claro está :-)

To celebrate my birthday, we went 2 nights to a hotel at the border between Switzerland and Italy, the Swiss Diamond Hotel, located 15 minutes away from Lugano by car, in canton Ticino. Ticino is the canton known as the Italian Switzerland (la svizzera italiana), that is, the part of Switzerland where the oficial language is Italian. Personally, I believe this is one of Swtizerland's most impressive regions, you'll see the pictures.

The Swiss Diamond Hotel is a 5-star hotel, and right in front of it is the lake of Lugano (Lago di Lugano). The border between Switzerland and Italy lies at the middle of the lake, that is, the other side of the lake is already Italy. Since since months are very bad for hotels in this region, one can find very attractive deals and good prices. The Swiss Diamond Hotel is a Wellness Spa, with massage rooms, jacuzzis, sauna, steam bath and a traditional turkish bath, among other features.

The day of my birthday, we went to Lugano. Weather was spectacular, which is rare in winter. The sky was almost totally cloudless and there was a lot of sun. If it wasn't for the temperature, it would have been a perfect summer day. Lugano is Swizerland's third most important financial center, after Zurich and Geneva. The banking sector is comprised mostly of private banks, which are the institutions that manage the assets of the rich. On one bank, for example, the minimum deposit required to have an account opened is 2 million swiss francs (around USD 2 million), although the minimum varies from bank to bank. So it is not rare to see impressive cars rolling through the streets of Lugano, some high-class Mercedes-Benz, Range Rover's, Maseratti's, Bentley's and many more.

It was a great way to spend my birthday, and I expect to return to this place and this same hotel next year, if they repeat the special offer, of course :-)
