El ride del día de hoy me llevó por unos de los lugares más espectaculares que he visto en este país. Espero que puedan ver las fotos que he publicado, así como el mapa del viaje.
El recorrido, como es lo usual, inició en el centro de la ciudad de Zúrich, bordeando el lago por el sector sur en dirección sureste. El destino: Sargans, una ciudad en el cantón de San Galo, justo en la frontera con Liechtenstein. Con una distancia de 96km, sería el viaje en bicicleta más largo que he hecho en mi vida (el anterior récord eran 70km), atravesando cuatro cantones: Zúrich, Schwyz, Glaris y San Galo.
El recorrido fue usual, hasta que llegué al canton de Glaris, el cual nunca había visitado. Glaris es un canton interesante. Tiene 685 kilómetros cuadrados de superficie, sin embargo solamente tiene dos rutas principales y cerca de 40,000 habitantes. La razón es que, aparte de estos valles por donde pasan estas dos rutas principales, el canton es dominado por impresionantes formaciones rocosas, una de las cuales me tocó subir a pura fuerza y corazón propio. Para salir del canton Glaris y entrar en San Galo, hay que cruzar una montaña, por un ascenso de 4 kilómetros de longitud y 6% de inclinación. Una vez en la cúspide, se obtiene una vista magnífica del lago Walensee y de San Galo.
Este tramo montañoso, entre Mollis y Obstalden es simplemente espectacular.
Espero, dentro de unas tres semanas, volver a hacer una buena ruta de ciclismo, donde pueda cruzar los 100km de distancia. El próximo fin de semana no habrá bicicleta, pues estaré de viaje en los Países Bajos.
Today’s bike ride took me to some of the most spectacular places I have seen in this country. I hope you can really check out the pictures and see some of the beauty of this region of central-east Switzerland.
The ride, as usual, started in Zurich city center, departing along the south border of the lake, on a southeast direction. The finish line: Sargans, a small town in canton St. Gallen that’s right at the border with Liechtenstein. With a total distance of 96km, it would be the longest ride of my life (the previous record was 70km), taking me through four different cantons: Zurich, Schwyz, Glarus and St. Gallen.
The ride was as usual between Zurich and Schwyz, until I came to canton Glarus, a place I had never visited before. Glarus is an interesting canton. With 685 sq.km, it has nonetheless only two main roads and only 40,000 inhabitants. The reason behind this, is that apart from the valleys where these roads were built on, the canton is a conglomerate of massive mountains and peaks, one of which I had to climb in order to exit Glarus and reach St. Gallen. To do this, you have to climb for 4km with a 6% inclination, that with 60km already loaded on your legs, is kind of tough. Once at the top, you are rewarded with a spectacular view of lake Walensee and St. Gallen
This part of the route, between Mollis and Obstalden, is of extraordinary beauty, worth seeing, and worth every minute of the ascent to get to the top with the bike.
In about three weeks, I expect to do another cool route, where I will try to cross the 100km barrier. There won’t be any riding next week since I will be traveling to The Netherlands.
